P4:
The role i played in my short horror movie was, camera man/actor I feel like I played a crucial role in the making of the movie, and was seen in most scenes. I shared this role with Charlie (sound guy/actor) , as some scenes that I featured in he took over the camera. We used a tripod for the camera, which we set up in a dry place away from any water to prevent damage to the camera, plus we also made sure to tighten the bolts on the camera mount so that we were confident it wouldn’t fall off and break.
We used a cannon 700D which was a very good quality camera, this came with all the features we needed such as an ISO adjuster, to make the shot darker or brighter, I used the story board that Alex ( the director ) made to get a rough idea for the for what the rough gradient the shot is filmed at whether not it’s zoomed in or not, what type of shot and most importantly where to position the camera. For some shots we weren’t sure on we filmed a rough practice shot before hand to make sure we were happy with how it looked , rather than rushing into to and creating something we weren’t happy with.
My other role in the movie was an acting role this, was my favourite role out of the two, as I was able to be on camera and show my acting skills. I feel like all actors worked ve eh well together we got along outside of filing as well as in so it made it very easy to get along with one another, which always results in a better movie in the long run, we would always talk to the director for some ideas of where we should go, and maybe how we can change/tweak some scenes ever so slightly if we felt that we needed a slight improvement, which in some cases in our movie we had to improvise. We also had to do some scenes off the tongue and improvise as one of our days in filming we had someone missing so we had to swap our roles around ever so slightly.
I feel like in the movie I was very comfortable with my role however I also felt like I brought a lot to the table as I was very talkative between everyone made sure that if I was stuck to speak up so that I don’t muck up the shot for everyone else, I also felt like I was second director behind Alex as I was very passionate about making sure we made a good film and wanted to see that everything was going to work out well.
Following Correct Safety Measures:
During the filming of the movie we had a very precise time to film by and this made us work hard however we felt that an extra lesson filming would be necessary for us in this case as we felt it would help us push towards the distinction grade. Risk assessments and legal and ethical were carried out through the process to make sure we had a safe working area and made sure we could work safely without anyone or anything being hurt/damaged, for example made sure that when filming it wasn’t thunder lighting or raining as we were using electrical equipment outside.
Story Board:
When it came to following the story board we followed the basic outline of how the movie played out, however like I spoke about earlier we decided to tweak some scenes here and there to make the overall movie better. We also added some new scenes that wasn’t on the story board, because we felt the ending needed some work, so we all discussed with Alex the Director what we thought needed adding and we came up with the solutions.
Scripts:
When it came to following the script, due to some scenes being added there wasn’t loads to follow with regards to dialogue wise, however the scenes like the meeting scene, we just followed the general idea of the script and changed a few sentences here and there. For example we also added a new ending for the movie, so this won’t be featured on our script.
Overall Analysis of Footage
Overall I think our footage, was good however there’s room for improvement and i think in some scenarios we overcomplicated things a lot where as if we kept things slightly simpler it may have had a bigger and better affect, however also I feel due to us being able to only film in college this was a massive issue, do to a horror movie in a school is harder to film and there is only one main idea we could have gone off which was the woods.
However I feel this didn’t have too much of an overall effect on the film, and I feel like the movie will still come out okay as long as we edit it well.
